Postcard marketing has been around since the invention of the postcard. Messages were easier to deliver, graphics could be added, and postage was cheaper. Companies saw immediately that all their marketing campaigns could be done cheaper than regular envelopes that needed to be stuffed, while achieving even a greater return.

For the major if the 20th century, and into the 21st century, nothing much changed. Now, with cell phones that take photos that rival regular digital cameras, and everyone in his brother writing applications for these phones, it was only a matter of time before someone realized that postcard marketing could be taken to a new level.

No longer does a company need to order thousands of postcards for one campaign, nor does a vacationer need to even find a store to buy a postcard, or a post office to mail it (which in many cases means you, the vacationer, gets home before your post card does!).

Now, all you need to need to do is take a picture, and with a cute little cell phone “app”, you can turn it into a postcard, pay for postage, select an address – a real address! – and have it printed, posted, and mailed, all within a few minutes of logging into the application, and after only a few keystrokes.

This is an ideal choice for small businesses who can’t afford or don’t need to undertake massive marketing campaigns. A business owner can turn a boring “thank you for your business” note into a unique customized post card that is relevant to his business.

For instance, a dog breeder could send a postcard to the new owner of one of her puppies using the puppy’s actual picture with “thank you for taking me home” right on the front. So much more personalized than standard thank you cards!
